RE CHESS "QUEEN protects KING?"
You only start going for the king near the end, when you know they have damn few moves left, and they are very limited in what they can do. You FORCE the queen to protect the king. You FORCE the opponent to do things they don't want to do, because if they don't, its game over. Its a point at which the opponent is fallen but is delaying the inevitable. Q is now FORCING the DS's hands.
