The USS Ross, a guided-missile destroyer armed with 28 Tomahawk cruise missiles capable of hitting any target in Syria, entered the Mediterranean on August 25, the Russian MoD has said. Igor Konashenkov, spokesman for the Russian MoD, on Monday said the appearance of the ship in the Mediterranean suggests the US is about the launch military action in support of rebels fighting against Assad’s regime.
He claimed the US plans to use the “dramatisation†of a chemical attack in the province of Idlib as the pretext for attacking the Syrian regime.
Konashenkov claims the chemical attack “staged†by Jabhat An-Nusra militants, one of the biggest jihadist groups in Syria, will provoke the bombing attack on Syrian government targets.
The strike is being planned in conjunction with British “special servicesâ€, Konashenkov said, without elaborating.

Russia says that its diplomats in Washington formally reached out to US officials and have briefed them on an impending plan by al-Qaeda insurgents in Idlib to stage a false flag chemical attack in order to provoke a Western military strike on Damascus.
